A bit about DC, and pickles!

My adopted city is a unique place. We are not part of any larger municipal structure. We do not have voting representation in Congress yet Congress has oversight on all DC affairs.

Except for one… they don’t have any oversight on our State Fair! (Yet, at least… I think.) I know, DC is not a state. We are even smaller than most counties in the country. But, it has been decided– we are having a fair and it will be called a State Fair!

I don’t know about the availability of fried foods. And there likely won’t be many of the agricultural displays you would get from a different state (we are not, sadly, even able to keep chickens yet/ still). But there will be contests!! Jam! Cupckaes! Pie! Beer! Funky and Large vegetables! Tomatoes! And Pickles! Oh, yes, pickles! Not only will there be a pickle contest, but yours truly will be judging it. Yep, that is right, if you are a DC resident and make pickles you can have me judge them! But you need to hurry and get your pickles entered in the contest by Thursday. There is a full list of deadlines at that link. Some contests are already closed, but there is still time to enter the fun.

Based on the schedule for the day I should be around until at least early afternoon so come on by and say hello even if you are not competing. I will be the one wearing some kind of DC shirt and scrutinizing the pickles!

*I apologize for The Boss. I just had it in my head that I need to use some song lyrics about a fair for this post and as I am a Jersey Girl it was all I could come up with. Well, that and Scarborough Fair which just seemed to clash with the excessive use of exclamation points.
